David Woodland
David Woodland’s photographic portfolio features sculptural
installations of natural objects, dramatic filmic landscapes and
skies, surreal macro images, poetic moments from Italy and France,
evocative images of the English countryside and the scenic splendor of
the Australian coast.
David is an Art Director and Matte painter for feature films, in visual effects.
He has worked on films such as Lord of the Rings, Moulin Rouge,
Kingdom of Heaven, The Painted Veil, Australia, The HBO Rome TV
series, and the academy award winning Happy Feet. Through this work
David has gained advanced technical skills.
A passion for photography and an interest in composition, form,
texture and lighting developed to become an integral part of David’s
artwork for film.
Since 2006 David has focused on photography as his primary artistic expression.
He considers photography to be a challenging subset of film, where the
story has to be told in one frame
Working in London, Sydney, Melbourne and Perth and travelling in
Britain, Italy, France, Spain and the USA has both inspired, and
provided material for, David’s creative and filmic approach to his
photographic images
Holding a degree in Fine Art and Design, David’s background prior to
the film industry was as a successful ceramic artist in Western
Australia and a production designer for theatre and contemporary
dance. His artwork is represented in the Australian National Gallery
and he was the recipient of a Churchill Fellowship.
David Woodland’s studio is based in Sydney. David can be commissioned
for photographic assignments and is available for photographic art
